[Hey there Johto/Kanto! Today you're going to see a... well, okay, maybe having a pokémon swipe his or her trainer's gear was kinda completely normal and standard at this point.
Except... well, the Raichu who had this gear didn't really look like he was happy or panicked or anything. He looked kinda annoyed, to say the least. And then he starts to say something that only other pokémon would be able to understand, since he didn't speak English or any other language.]
Okay, I've been training for months now with my trainer and I'm bored as hell fighting against these guys who are paid to lose! We never needed to do this before and we didn't need to do this now! I know I'm more than strong enough to deal with any of you guys!
So come on, any time, any place, I'll totally kick all of your-
[The pokégear is suddenly snatched out of the pokémon's hand, and Hikari shows up on the screen, letting out a sigh.]
Sorry about this. I guess my Raichu doesn't really know when to quit with the whole 'trying to steal the gear' thing.
[Hikari forces a smile to her lips.]
I figured that he'd mellow out a bit once he grew up, but if anything it just sounds like he's gotten worse.
Anyway, for anyone who could understand what he was saying, if he did something like challenge the entire world to a fight, I'm not letting him go through with it.
[She didn't really have that kind of time, after all.
... A few moments later, Hikari does realize that it's been, like forever since she made a post. She should probably say something to make this not be a complete waste of people's time.]
... So, does anyone have any tips for dealing with an over-eager pokémon that wants to fight everything that moves? Because Raichu makes my Umbreon look like complete pacifist and it's not getting any better.
And before anyone suggests it, no, making him go against something that he can't beat and have him lose doesn't calm him down at all. It just makes him worse when he wakes back up.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.
My Trapinch has taken out most of the local wildlife by himself, and Nurse Joy keeps telling me off when I have to bring them all in to heal!
And when I'm not watching, he tries to bite me.
I don't even know why.
If you get any good advice, it would be great if you could pass it on.
There should be a book called Dealing with difficult pokemon.
no subject
Wow. I thought this was just a problem that I usually had to deal with.
[She blinks at the next part though.]
Wait, it tries to bite you? That doesn't... make much sense.
[She thought that was just Danny's Garchomp that seemed like it wanted to eat everything.]
But don't worry, I'll definitely let you know if I figure out how to deal with this situation.
... And hopefully we won't need to write that book ourselves, right?
sorry for the delay!
Yeah, I don't know why! I tried everything. I think just being near him makes him want to bite me....
That would be good, thanks.
Maybe if we work it out, we could write it down somewhere to help other ponies. But don't tell Twilight that or she'll make me write a book about it, and I already have way too many chores!
Np
[She blinked at the part where he said ponies, but well, that second thing answered that.]
Oh, you're from Twilight's world? Well, I'll make sure not to tell her what we find out then.
... Though I think she'd probably be better at writing the book than we would, right?
no subject
Yeah Twilight loves studying. If I suggested it to her, she'd be all 'That's a great idea Spike. I think you should write it, given your first hand experience and it will be a good project for you to work on' etcetra.
Honestly, that pony can really take the fun out of things sometimes.
[A pause]
Maybe you can take him to some kind of training gym or something? Then he can use up all his energy training?
no subject
[Hikari pauses for a moment, before her smile changes to a frown.]
That's a good idea. Except for the part where I'm already doing that and it's not working.
no subject
I guess she has been here a long time...
[He laughs]
Hopefully you were able to convince her to have some fun while she's been here!
[A pause while Spike tries to think of other options. He finally throws his hands up in defeat]
I got nothing. Princess Cadence says you have to be tolerant and understanding, and eventually they'll start listening to you.
I'm not so sure though...
no subject
[She pauses, before nodding.]
I guess... I can understand him wanting to fight and get stronger. I don't mind that. It's just... how he seems to handle it that's the problem.
no subject
[Spike scratches his head]
You could just take him to fight really strong trainers? I mean, it's good training for him right? Maybe that makes him happy? Maybe he's bored?
no subject
Maybe. But if the pokemon he fights are too strong then that's just as bad. He won't get anything out of the battle if he's beaten in a single hit.
sorry for delay, was on hiatus!
What if it's just a challenging pokemon? I mean, something he still has a chance against, but much harder than a regular one? Then you wouldn't have to worry about him getting beaten straight away?
[Spike really doesn't know much about pokemon battles, being a breeder, but he's still trying to give advice. After all, he's well aware what having a difficult pokemon is like.]
No prob!
[ It's alright. She's a breeder too. But battling still needs to be done to get some stronger pokémon. ]
no subject
Well....Twilight told me that pokemon have 'type' disadvantages or something...
What if you, you know, focused on training him to be able to deal with those? You know, water on fire, that sort of stuff?
no subject
I've... well, been trying to think about ways to deal with his weakness in general. The only one he has is to the ground type, but there's a lot of pokémon with ground moves.
I'll have to see if there's any moves he can learn that'll help him deal with doing damage to them.
no subject
Yeah! That's a good idea. Do you have any ground types or pokemon with ground moves that can help you?
...
Maybe I should try this with Pinchy...
no subject
But there are some machines on sale that can teach pokémon some moves, so I should be able to fix that without too much trouble.
no subject
Hmm. You can probably find other trainers who have ground types too to train against.
Or you could get a ground type! The breeding centre has lots of eggs. I bet you could find one there! Or maybe even adopt one!
Then you can train them with each other! Maybe your Raichu needs a friend to train with?
no subject
But I kinda already do that last part, and he gets along okay with the others. Even if he's really competitive.
no subject
Well, at least that's something. Pinchy doesn't get along with any of the others.
Seriously. I think he goes out of his way to annoy them.
How many do you have?
no subject
[ She pauses, thinking about her team for a moment. ]
I have eleven of them right now, though for the most part I only use six of them in battles specifically.
no subject
I don't know why. Everypony needs friends.
Maybe he'd be a lot nicer if he had a friend.
I tried, but I don't think he likes me. Twilight said not to give up though.
[Spike looks impressed.]
Wow that's a lot. Not quite as many as Applejack...I think she's taken to collecting them...
I only have seven right now. Was Raichu the one you were given when you got here?
no subject
Yeah. I'd definitely not give up. If you do that he'll never change.
And no, Raichu wasn't my starter. He's actually one of the newer members of my team.
[ She pauses for a moment. ]
Of course, I've had him for a good long while now, but still.
sorry for the delay - I didn't realise I'd left this one hanging! .__.
And he's always been like this? Or only since he evolved? [Because if Pinchy was going to get worse when he evolved, that was not something Spike was looking forward to.]
What was your starter?
...I need to sign my Rufflet up for it, too.
Umbreon's mostly fine now at least. He seems to be perfectly fine fighting everything in the Training Center.
And even if some of them couldn't, well, there'd still be the others that can.
[She lets out a bit of a nervous giggle.]
I really should look into getting a psychic pokémon to translate for me.
[With a small sigh, she nods.]
You could ask CheepCheep if you want! He's part-psychic.
video
[So does his Teddiursa. They all want to be pokemon stars.]
Anyway, he can't be calmed down, huh? Maybe he can go against my Gallade? He's not overeager, but he has been seeking a lot of fights lately.
video
[She pauses to think for a moment.]
Gallade? That might work out pretty well. My Raichu shouldn't be at a type disadvantage, so if he loses he'd definitely know that it was just because of strength and nothing else.
... Then again, he'd probably still be this eager. It's not like he hasn't lost battles before.
video
Hm, a Pokemon that overeager? I wonder what should make him settle down, though I'm willing to give it a shot with Gallade.
video
But it's not like it's possible for him to do that. I mean, there's just way too many of them.
video
video
Trying would definitely keep him busy, that's for sure.
video
How about trying later? I've got time. [He always has time for her, anyway.]
video

[She pauses.]
Of course, if a pokémon you have doesn't seem to really want to fight at all, then forcing it probably isn't a good idea.
Then you get pokémon like my Raichu who would charge off towards things fifty levels stronger than he was and expect to when. When he was still a Pichu. That's kinda... a problem.
But just one of them is way more than enough.
